Representation Of My Age And Gender

Misfit's Nathan Young Immortality Scene

This whole scene revolves around teenagers doing community service as a punishment for doing something bad in public life.
The clip relates to my age, gender and race as we are all similar. The genders of us both relate as some of the characters in the clip are female. By using both male and female ganders allows the programme to appeal to a wider range audience. The female and male roles could perhaps represent that they are stereotypical teenagers.
The races of the characters vary. However, one of the characters is a teenage white girl. This actress was chosen to represent a teenage chav, maybe implying that a lot of teenagers in England are seen by the public eye this way. Her slick back hair, big jewelry, heavy makeup and lazy accent implies this.
Many teenagers in the UK are stereotyped by older ages as cocky, chavvy and they are all negative. Although this is a wrong interpretation, it allows the audience to know this is a programme about teenagers. The cockiness of the main character in the clip could highlight teenagers' behavior towards older ages. The idea of including different races and genders in the clip could portray that the creator wanted the audience to know that every teenager is different and not to judge them. The characters are wearing matching orange jumpsuits. This could imply that they are not seen by the public as individuals. The idea that the characters are doing community service too highlights that they are stereotyped characters and that's the way we are seen by older ages.
Howard Overman was the creator of 'Misfits'. He read up about ASBO teenagers and was inspired. This could have been one of the ideas to why he created a 'uniquely British' drama. The creator understood that being a teenager is a challenging time, therefore he could relate to the characters. All of these links helped portray the stereotypical characters and fantastic drama.

Detonations and Connotations

Detonations and Connotations

Apple

Apple is a company who creates and sells technology such as computers, laptops and phones. the logo does contain more than one meaning. The logo is actually an apple which has a bite taken out of it, so may be mistaken as just a picture of an apple with a bite out of it. Groups which may find the logo/brand difficult to identify would be probably older and younger people such as ages below ten and older than sixty. I think younger audiences would understand this logo but not for what it means. Younger audiences would perhaps think it was just an image of an apple rather than what it stands for. I think older audiences would think the same as younger audiences and also, if you'd asked them about the brand, they may not understand.

Citroen

Citroen is a company which produces well known cars. I think the logo does contain one more meaning as the logo looks like parallel lines facing upwards so it might be mistaken as that. I think the groups which may find this brand difficult to work out is age and geography. I think age as some people may have not been around when the brand was created, for example, young children may not know what this means. Also I think people from different countries (other than Europe) would find it difficult to work this brand out as it's a French company.

 Male Symbol

The male symbol is just a representation of identifying a male. The logo does not contain more than one meaning. Young children may find this difficult to read as they may not understand.

McDonalds

McDonalds is a company which produces a variety of fast food. The brand does not have another meaning. I think everyone will be able to understand this logo as it's a popular fast food company worldwide.

No Iron Symbol

The no iron symbol is just a symbol printed on the clothing/bedding etc. Tag to tell people not to iron something. The logo does not have another meaning. Young children may not be able to understand this as it's not something which probably is taught or learnt until you're older.

No Entry Symbol

The no entry symbol is a symbol telling people not to enter certain places. The logo does not have another meaning. Again, I think young children would have a problem reading this as they may not have been taught about the meaning yet.

Men and Women Symbol

The men and women symbol could possibly mean that both genders are allowed in certain places etc. E.g. Unisex toilets. The logo does not have another meaning. Again, I think young children would have a problem reading this as they may not have been taught about the meaning yet.

Rolling Stones

The Rollling Stones is a band. I don't think it has another meaning. I think the younger generation would have difficulty with this logo as they're quite old and they may not know who they are.

Olympics

The Olympics is a worldwide sporting event which happens every four years. It does not have another meaning however it may be mistaken as the Audi logo as they are both similar logos. I think everyone will understand this logo as it's the biggest sporting event in the world.

Pawn Broker

A Pawn Broken is a place where people lend money at interest. I don't think this has another meaning. I don't think many people will understand this logo as it's not very well known unless you've borrowed money from there.

Wool

A wool symbol is used to identify wool. I don't think this has another meaning. I don't think many people will understand this logo as it's not used much in everyday life (unless you wash/iron clothes and read the label often).

Union Jack

The union jack logo is used to represent the United Kingdom. I don't think it has another meaning. I think everyone will understand this logo as the UK is a well known country (although young children may have difficulty as they may be too young to understand).

Star of David

The Star of David is used to represent Judaism. I don't think it has another meaning, however some people may just think it's an image of a star if they come across it in random places. I think young children may have difficulty understanding this as they're young and may not be taught about religions yet.

 Scales of Justice

The Scales of Justice is used to represent truth and fairness. I don't think it has another meaning however some people may see it just as a pair of scales. The younger generation may not understand this as they may not have been taught about it.
